Charity begins at home, home is in your heart.
Too bad for me, that it’s only lately that I’ve begun to realize that we all have so much impact on others. What we say, how we respond to others, what we choose to focus on and talk about, and the mood in which we carry ourselves when with others carry more weight than we realize, impacting not just how others see us and in turn choose to treat us, but our own sense of meaning, power, and connection.
Unfortunately, it’s hard to have such a positive impact on others if we’re not healed. The unhealed live on autopilot, treating people as blank pages to vent at and make use of, instead of colorful pages to be curious about and marvel at.
The reason why this subject matter means a lot to me is because I aspire to be someone who lives consciously: after all, mindfulness and awareness is associated with authentic happiness. And in order to live consciously and peacefully, we not only have to get along with others — in order to do so, we have to have the capacity to see others. I truly believe that if we’re not able to see and feel ourselves (such is still viewed as selfish to some), we cannot see and feel others, and therefore cannot do the utmost good for others (because we cannot see them and what they truly need, for instance).
So my question for you is, do you want to feel alive and one with the universe? If you do, you will have to work on feeling stable in
a. your sense of who you are and what you stand for, and
b. in your sense of connection to others.
Show up for yourself and others, and life will feel like something good.
